In one our last contributions in 2020, FIGIJ actively participated in the deferred FIGO African and East Mediterranean Regional Congress in Kigali, Rwanda in December 2020 with a session entitled “Breaking down Barriers in Adolescent Health”. Our contribution was virtual and the technical support was excellent. The topics chosen and ratified by FIGO were single dose HPV vaccination (Paul Wood, UK), Strategies for managing menstrual problems in adolescents (Judy Simms-Cendan, USA) and teenage pregnancy, abortion and violence (Shilpa Nambiar, Malaysia). Thanks have been received from FIGO (reproduced below) and FIGIJ has been acknowledged – as you can see in the excerpt below we are in exceptionally good company! These presentations are available to watch here: FIGIJ Presentations at FIGO.
Sincerely,
Paul Wood, President FIGIJ.
Dear Paul Wood,
On behalf of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), alongside our partners the African Federation of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (AFOG) and the Rwanda Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RSOG) I would like to express our deepest gratitude to you for speaking at the FIGO Africa Regional Kigali Congress 2020.
The evening of 15th December marked the end of the first Hybrid Congress in FIGO’s history. Over two and a half days from 13th to 15th December, the Congress united more than 1,100 health professionals and specialists in the fields of gynaecology, obstetrics and women’s health and rights from 74 different countries.
Across 11 workshops, 30 on demand sessions and 24 live sessions, including two panel debates and four keynote presentations, more than 200 speakers engaged with guests in discussions that will help to shape national, regional and global policy.
We are very thankful to all of those who made such a landmark event happen, despite facing so many challenges. We are extremely thankful to our speakers, chairs and session organisers for facilitating a host of incredible talks and enabling discussions that will ultimately help women around the world to achieve the highest possible standards of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Please be aware that all sessions will be available on the virtual platform from 30th December 2020 for Congress participants to benefit from for at least another six months. You may receive some further questions from attendees in the session chat box which you are welcome to check and respond to.
We invite you to take a look at our round up blog post, which you can find here.
With best wishes,
FIGO
