The International Federation of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (FIGIJ) strongly supports the FIGO statement defending abortion access for all. The adolescents under our care are particularly at risk of unplanned pregnancy and encounter greater barriers in access to and provision of abortion care. This is because of a combination of factors including limited sexual health education, difficulty with accessing contraception, cultural and socioeconomic barriers to gynaecological care, risk of sexual assault and human trafficking, and child marriage. The availability of safe and legal abortion services is critical to the health, wellbeing and future direction of the lives of adolescents globally.
