From FIGIJ Board Member Ivonne Bedei

This year the Berlin Symposium for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology celebrated the 10th anniversary. It took place from the 27-29th of April in Berlin This year, for the first time this biannual meeting was co-organised with Switzerland and Austria, making it the biggest international German speaking meeting in this field. Participants and speakers came from Switzerland, Austria, Great Britain and Luxembourg,

During 3 days participants had the chance to take part in different workshops and lectures. Also the new German PAG board was elected.

This years meeting focused on the situation of PAG in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and, as an overview, the situation of PAG in Europe. The speaker on the last topic was Paul Wood from Great Britain who is a member of the executive of both EURAPAG and FIGIJ.

Another focus of the meeting was fertility protection and uterine transplantation. The special health issues including female genital mutilation that occur in some of the immigrant young women was also discussed. The afternoon session of the first day started with early and early to normal puberty development, followed by prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

Fridays topics were diagnosis and treatment in transsexual children and adolescents and contraception in adolescents with chronic diseases.

Saturday, the last day of the meeting, started with basic PAG issues for every day and plastic surgery in PAG.

With over 250 participants from different European countries, the meeting was a big success. The next meeting will take place in April 2019, hopefully with even more international participation.
